Tainted Paladin
Interaction - Same
Effects - A Paladin has become tainted by having broken their Vows As long as a Paladin has levels of Tainted Paladin, they are considered to have the Saving throws of a Fighter of the same level. When determining a Paladin's Class Features, Ranked Features and Spells per day, decrease their Level by the Level of Tainted Paladin x 2. For example, a normal Paladin has Lay on Hands 20 at Level 2, whilst a Paladin with Tainted Paladin II has only Lay on Hands 16.
To remove a level of Tainted Paladin, the Paladin must re-take the same Vow and make an attempt to atone for the violation in a way that is relevant to the violation - breaking the vow of Charity may warrant donating all their gold to a good cause, whilst a vow of Silence broken may warrant being permanently Silenced. It is up to player and DM to determine something reasonable, but often it has a permanent hue that makes it harder to commit the transgression again.
If a Paladin reaches Tainted Paladin VI, they are no longer a Paladin but are considered a Fighter of the same Level. Their XP drops to the level required to be that Level of Fighter. They keep Tainted Paladin, as it is a Prerequisite for becoming a Blackguard - a Fallen Paladin or Anti-Paladin.
