Attacking an Area
Also known as "attacking the floor" or "shooting the broadside of a barn", a character can attempt to attack an area or tile.
Ranged Attacks against an Area
For all intents and purposes, a specific tile (but not a specific object in it) has an AC of 10 whilst a general area has an AC of 15 against Ranged Attacks. This does NOT include the capacity to damage what is being targeted - an attack against a stone wall with a sword is not apt to penetrate it when rolling against AC 15. This only refers to the ability to hit the target by throwing or striking it.
This is typically used when a character is throwing a grenade at a tile, rather than at a given character.
If a character hits AC 10, the object lands anywhere within 1d3 feet of the center of the tile. If the character hits AC 15, it scatters 2d3 feet, usually determined by rolling 1d12. Providing the character hits, they may modify the distance by 1/4 their Advanced Throwing Skill Rating or Strength/Dexterity To-Hit bonus.
If the character misses beyond this, it scatters up to 2d6 feet away.
For every size category below Small, total Scatter Distance is halved and for every Size category above Medium, it is doubled.
Melee Attacks against an Area
Melee Attacks against an Area are considered Automatic Hits.
