Lord of War
Lord of War
Interaction - Same
Effects - Character has gained a significant amount of influence and power, owing to their martial might.
Once a character with Lord of War has obtained a Stronghold or Dungeon Stronghold, they are able to draw Followers to them. These Followers will actively seek out the character. Followers arrive in groups - these are Leaders, Elite Units and Troops. They arrive on a random day within 1d6 months and, when they do, the form of the group is rolled for. If rejected, the character may roll again next month in the same manner. Not all the groups will arrive at the same time - they are usually considered separate units.
These Followers remain and are loyal as long as they reasonably well treated and well paid. If they are lost by any means, they may be replaced - either by waiting for new Followers to arrive or by through hiring characters using the rules for Hirelings. To do so requires the character to pay double the normal hiring rate per month for the intense training regimen they receive and an additional fee equal to twice the monthly hiring fee. Hirelings used in this manner they gain 1 Level or Hit Dice every 6 Months until they are the appropriate Level or Hit Dice of the original Follower. The cost of their training increases as they increase in Level.
Leaders that are lost or replaced are gained as described above - if lost or replaced, one will seek the character out after 1d6 months. Members of Troops or Elite Troop that are lost are gained at the 20% the original unit size per Month plus the character's Social Modifier. If below 0, this increases the amount of time before a new member arrives; if a unit gains 1 soldier a month and the character has a Social Modifier of -1, 1 Elite Soldier arrives every 2 months.
This assumes that these Followers are remaining within their Stronghold and not on a campaign - a unit of these Followers must have not seen significant action besides drilling and training for at least a week before they begin to Replenish.
The cost of a unit is paid per month. The TOTAL cost is modified by the character's Loyalty Base Modifier. If reduced to 1 GP, further reductions are applied in SP. A Unit's cost may never be lowered below 1 SP a month. If unpaid for a month, half the Character's effective Loyalty Base in regards to the troops if positive, double it if it is negative. After this point, followers start to abandon the character at a rate of 1/4 original unit size a month until payment is received. Once fully recruited, a unit typically costs 50% less than the value of Hirelings, are employed indefinitely and use the character's full Loyalty Base, whether they are present or not.
If a Follower has a Weapon listed, assume they have Specialization in that weapon. If they are a Leader, assume they have Mastery in those weapons. The player may spend any remaining Weapon Proficiency points the character would have, after these are considered, whenever the Followers would normally be able to Replenish. Cavalry Followers are assumed to have Journeyman Riding - Cavalry Leaders are assumed to have Master Riding.
Followers will not willingly part with their equipment. If the majority of a group of Followers or a Leader is killed by the character's intent or gross negligence, the character will lose Lord of War. Sending the Followers to fight an unwinnable battle despite their protests is considered negligent if they are ultimately coerced into it and suffer the above losses.
Finally, if the character is able to gain this tag multiple times, they gain access to an additional unit of each type of Followers. If a specific [Type] is listed, they may only gain those Followers. For example Lord of War [Leaders] allows the character one more Leader, whilst Lord of War [Offensive Leader, Defensive Leader] would grant them TWO extra leaders - one Offensive, one Defensive. If a Level is listed, it conforms to this rule - Lord of War II means the character has 2 Leaders, 2 Elites and 2 Troops.
