Ranger Code
Ranger Code
Interaction - None
Effects - The character has a code they must live by. They must pick a number of Beliefs upon becoming a 3rd Level Ranger and must live in accordance to them for the rest of their life.
The character must take 3 Major Beliefs. In place of a Major Belief, a character may take 2 Minor Beliefs.
The standard Ranger Beliefs are Able to Wander, Sincerity and Independence.
Able to Wander (Major) - Character may not own more a total of item's that weigh more than the character's Moderate Encumbrance limit. They may own one beast of burden - if they do so, they may use this Animal's Light Encumbrance limit instead, whichever is greater. Character may not wear Armour that is Heavy or greater. This Belief is broken if the Character voids any of the above.
Independence (Major) - Character may not have Hirelings, Followers or Henchmen before 8th Level. Character may have no more than 1 Animal Companion Follower at Level 1-4 and 2 at Level 5-7. Character may have no more than 1 Henchman that is a Ranger or Druid at Level 1-4 and 2 at level 5-7. At Level 8, these limitations on Hirelings, Followers and Henchmen are removed. The Character may not own a Stronghold nor command an army, though they may serve in one. This Belief is broken if the Character voids any of the above.
Sincerity (Major) - Character may not act in a means that is contradictory to their alignment - a True Neutral Ranger may not act in a way that would plunge a region into chaos or cause it to be snatched by a tyrant. This Belief is broken if the Character voids any of the above.
Wanderlust (Major) - Character cannot own a home or sleep in rented accommodations such as an inn. The character prefers to sleep in the wilderness - if unable to do so, they will sleep wherever they can so long as they can sleep for free - sneaking into a hayloft or under a bridge. If offered free lodging, they may accept it but will only sleep in a decent room if given no real alternative. Character must relocate their campsite every week to at least a mile away from any location the Character has camped within during the last month.
Failing to uphold a Minor Belief increases their level of Failed Ranger by 1. Failing to uphold a Major Belief increases their Level of Failed Ranger by 2. Beliefs are only broken consciously - a character does not suffer a penalty for having done it whilst being Dominated or as a consequence of a Suggestion. Attempting to assert control on a character in a manner that would negate a Belief gives them an immediate new Save, and an additional +3 if a Major Belief or a +1 if a Minor Belief.
