A charact

Detection

(if a character is making no effort to conceal themselves, characters require an Easy check)

(using cover, successful hide checks and so forth, increases the chance of not being detected)

Hiding

Sneaking

Any character can attempt to Sneak - not just Thieves and Rangers. Sneaking is discussed in depth in the Stealth section. Sneaking consists of the character moving slowly and attempting to conceal their movements.

Sneaking increases the cost of moving per tile by 1 Move Point. To gain its benefits over hard terrain, like stone, increases the cost per tile by 2 Move Points instead.

Sneaking increases the difficulty of Awareness and Observation checks by one step providing the opponent is currently Unaware of them. If they Break Detection they are able to gain the benefits of Sneaking again.

(explain more here, this is taken from alternative movement^)

Breaking Detection

old notes

A character who is not moving and hiding behind an object requires an Observation check to detect them. This is based on sight. With 50% or greater Concealment/Cover, it takes a Basic Observation check to detect them.

With 90% or greater Concealment/Cover, it takes an Advanced Observation check to detect them.

A Thief does not need to worry about this, however – a Hide in Shadows check creates effective cover or exploits the environment to find it. Checks to detect a Thief who has successfully made these rolls are Expert Observation checks.

A character may spend 1 more Move Point per tile to Sneak. If they do this, they require an Advanced check to detect audibly if they are moving on soft terrain such as sand or a Basic check to detect audibly if they are moving on hard terrain such as stone or otherwise audible. If the character spends 2 Move Points extra per tile to Sneak, they may make this Observers ion check into an Advanced Check, even on hard terrain.

A Thief, meanwhile, whilst sneaking uses Move Silently. If they are Small or Tiny, they do not suffer a speed penalty. If their check is successful, it takes an Expert Observation check to detect their movement.
